MG Scaffolding
(Oxford) Ltd
Cheltenham based scaffold erectors MG Scaffolding have become a leading force locally within their industry by recognizing the fact that they have had to change the way they work.
We are now a proactive forward thinking company constantly looking at new ideas in basically a new modernized industry. We invest heavily on our external workforce by sending at least four members of our directly employed workforce away for CITB/CSCS training per year. Four have just completed their Basic part ones where this years training has already been booked for next year.
80% of our workforce accredited under the current CSCS health and safety scheme where our objective is to achieve a 100% pass rate on all of our staff by the year end.
Four operatives have just completed the IPAF mechanical access day course that gives us further scope to meet our new clients needs.
The days have gone when individuals just turn up in shorts and trainers with no qualifications. It is now more important how the job goes up and the risks which are involved in the task which needs to be carried out safely in this high risk industry. When MG are appointed, rest assured that our directly employed external work force have been trained or that they are going through our intensive training program
The most noticeable projects we are currently working on locally is the former John Trainer site on the corner of Winchcombe Street, Cheltenham for Markey builders, and the Brewery Site for Galliford Try, amongst many others.
The directors feel comfortable that they have the safety aspect right but constantly look at ways of improving our best asset - our workers, throughout their working lives.
With an external workforce of 24 operatives it is important that we instrument a good communication channel that runs both ways to ensure our clients needs are met at all times with problems being identified and resolved quickly.
We have a retained external safety advisor who advises us on new legislation, overhauls our safety documentation annually and spot checks our major sites to ensure the standards that have been set are maintained by the workforce.
We have design consultants who have spent many years within the industry who have a major input on our complex projects that require drawings and calculations.
